Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) LLC today announced that the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system is the first computer entertainment system in the gaming market to get the latest version of the Netflix application for instantly watching movies and TV episodes as well as the only system to add a full title search capability. The search functionality is available now to all users who currently subscribe to Netflix and own PS3.

Netflix subscribers can access the service via the PS3 system through a free, instant streaming Blu-ray disc. Once within the application users simply enter a few letters and select the title they are looking for – they can begin watching their desired content in seconds. Other consoles, in contrast, require Netflix subscribers to boot up their laptop or PC, go to the Netflix Web site, enter a search string, add the desired movie or TV show to their queue, and then go back to their console to choose and play that content. Netflix and SCEA will continue to expand on the entertainment experience delivered to PS3 system owners via the PlayStation Network, including access via a native application in the coming months.

"The key to the PS3 system's early access is support for our Continuous Improvement Architecture," said Bill Holmes, vice president of business development for Netflix. "The Netflix application on the PS3 system gets updated by Netflix so easily that we can deliver frequent upgrades with the latest improvements to PS3 owners."

Phil Rosenberg, SCEA senior vice president said, "We are thrilled to be the first in the marketplace to have Netflix search capability. Search is fundamental to choosing movies and TV shows and we're proud to be the only gaming system supporting the Netflix Continuous Improvement Architecture, which makes Netflix application improvements instantly available to the installed base of Netflix users on the PS3 system."

Today's news further solidifies the PS3 system as the most complete home entertainment hub on the market, enabling consumers to play high-definition games, watch Blu-ray movies, listen to music, view photos, browse the Internet, and download content from PlayStation Network − from exclusive games to blockbuster movies and popular TV shows.

The Super Bowl is a colossal achievement in the game of football. Any American can tell you that few sporting achievements equate to winning the big game. Yet the world's one NFL-branded videogame series essentially turned a blind eye to the event. That's all about to end on August 10 when people get the chance to experience the Super Bowl's new treatment in Madden NFL 11.

I'm excited to tell everyone that this year's Super Bowl victory sequence is pretty damn cool. It comes complete with an audible celebration (as opposed to last year's muted exuberance) and some well done commentary from Gus Johnson that's specific to your team. Next up is the trophy presentation to the MVP with Commissioner Roger Goodell who then presents the Lombardy Trophy to a group of joyous teammates. Watch the videos to see where the jubilation goes from there.
They are looking for a man described as around 6-feet tall.

Bomb-making tips, hit list behind Blogetery closure

July 19, 2010 10:28 AM PDT - by Greg Sandoval

More details are surfacing about why Blogetery.com, a blogging platform that claimed to service more than 70,000 blogs, was mysteriously booted from the Internet by its Web-hosting company.

The site was shut down after FBI agents informed executives of Burst.net, Blogetery's Web host, late on July 9 that links to al-Qaeda materials were found on Blogetery's servers, Joe Marr, chief technology officer for Burst.net, told CNET. Sources close to the investigation say that included in those materials were the names of American citizens targeted for assassination by al-Qaeda. Messages from Osama bin Laden and other leaders of the terrorist organization, as well as bomb-making tips, were also allegedly found on the server.

But Marr said a Burst.net employee erred in telling Blogetery's operator and members of the media that the FBI had ordered it to terminate Blogetery's service. He said Burst.net did that on its own.

This past weekend, reports surfaced that Blogetery was shut down by the federal government and suggested that it was likely due to copyright violations. On Sunday, CNET reported that the shutdown had nothing to do with copyright violations and that a similar service, Ipbfree.com, a platform for message boards, was shuttered within days of Blogetery. It is still unclear why Ipbfree was cut off.

The disappearance of the sites has prompted users of each service to complain about the closures and speculate about possible reasons. Some guesses were more wild than others.

Many speculated that the FBI was using the Patriot Act to silence bloggers. But Marr emphasized that the FBI has never ordered Burst.net to stop service to any site it hosts without a court order and that the vast majority of Burst.net's communication with the federal government has involved agents serving warrants related to terrorist or child porn investigations.

"They have to go through the legal system," Marr said. "A judge has to issue an order."

Marr said the FBI contacted Burst.net and sent a Voluntary Emergency Disclosure of Information request. The letter said terrorist material, which presented a threat to American lives, was found on a server hosted by Burst.net and asked for specific information about the people involved.

In the FBI's letter, the agency included a clause that says Web hosts and Internet service providers may voluntarily elect to shut down the sites of customers involved in these kinds of situations. The Burst.net employee who handled the request erroneously believed that the FBI would want to seize the customer's server and thus the employee cut off service to Blogetery. Marr said the FBI, however, never asked for the server.

Marr said that regardless of the mix-up, Blogetery's service was terminated because bomb-making tips and a "hit list" are an obvious and absolute violation of its terms of service.

The FBI's request invoked 18 USC 2702, a portion of federal law that allows providers to voluntarily disclose information to police in some circumstances.

Under this, the FBI has the right to ask that an Internet service provider to turn over information immediately--without being compelled by a court order--when the agency has reason to believe that lives may be threatened. The request also compels an ISP not to discuss the investigation.

A source with knowledge of the investigation said that the material allegedly found on Blogetery's server is connected to an online magazine called "Inspire," which debuted recently. Numerous news outlets reported over the past weekend that "Inspire" is designed to help recruit new members to al-Qaeda and is edited by Samir Khan, a 24-year-old North Carolina man who moved to Yemen last October. According to Fox News, the title of one article was "Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom."

Citing intelligence sources, Fox reported that Khan is Web savvy and his magazine represents "al-Qaeda's most ambitious terrorist recruitment tool to date."

Those aren't two interpretations of the same piece of news; if Game Informer are to be believed, then two fighting games are currently in development, both pitting the stars of Namco against the stars of Capcom.

Note these are fighting games, not a continuation of the old Namco x Cappcom RPG title that appeared on the previous hardware generation. Why two games? Simple: each company makes one! Capcom would be developing Capcom vs Namco, built on the Street Fighter IV engine, while Namco will develop Namco vs Capcom, which will run on the Tekken 6 engine.

As fighting game fans are already no doubt coming to grips with, this would mean two significantly different games, Street Fighter IV's 2D arenas contrasted nicely with Tekken's more three-dimensional combat.

GI say that Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono is handling Capcom's side of the deal, while it's expected Namco Bandai's Katsuhiro Harada will be in charge of the opposing project.

If this information is good - and there have certainly been strong hints to suggest it is - then the two games' debut trailers will be shown this weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con.
